Secret of Work – Contest 2024

CONTEXT FOR THE CONTEST

BY SWAMI SHITIKHANTANANDA, Ramakrishna Math, Hyderabad

Through this contest, the objective is to reach out to the youth across the length and breadth of the country and get them ignited by Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy through four selected thoughts on the secret of work. The idea is to generate awareness among the youth about karma yoga and inspire actions in the right context and in the light of Swami ji’s teachings. The thoughts and the compilations throw light on the true essence of work or ‘karma’, the meaning of duty, and how selfless actions are at the core of spirituality.

CONTEXT FOR THE CONTEST

BY Dr Anupama Reddy, Vice-Chairperson, Aaryajanani Trust

Action is built into us. We are constantly engaged in some form of activity, even if it’s just thinking. This inherent need for action is ingrained within our nature. Karma, the Sanskrit word for action, signifies the ongoing cycle of cause and effect that governs our lives.

Struggle and peace are inherently incompatible. To attain eternal peace, one must transcend the cycle of struggle. Karma, by its very nature, is entangling. It creates bondage and traps us in the repetitive cycle of birth and death.

While we cannot escape karma entirely, as it is the fabric of our existence, we can strive to break free from its entangling effects. The path to liberation lies in approaching karma with a detached and selfless attitude, as advocated in the Bhagavad Gita.

Swami Vivekananda, the great patriot and prophet of the nation, delved into the profound teachings of Karma Yoga, a concept that emphasizes the spiritual significance of work. His insightful lectures, compiled under the title “Karma Yoga,” provide a practical guide to performing actions without getting caught in the web of karma.

Inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s teachings, we are organizing this contest to empower young people to transform from ordinary workers into Karma Yogis. By understanding and applying the principles of Karma Yoga, they can attain mastery in their work, unleash their true potential, and become highly efficient and productive individuals.

Engaging with Karma Yoga will not only elevate their professional lives but also lead them towards spiritual freedom, the ultimate goal of human existence.

We invite all young people to actively participate in this contest and immerse themselves in the transformative teachings of Swami Vivekananda. The contest is being conducted by Aaryajanani Trust in collaboration with Ramakrishna Math, Hyderabad, with the aim of disseminating Swami Vivekananda’s life-giving message to the youth of Bharat.
